Oil Paintings in North Yorkshire
(Approx $44.80 or €33.60)
This catalogue displays the great wealth of publicly owned oil paintings in the vast county of North Yorkshire. Over 2,700 paintings are reproduced from 42 collections. This includes all the oils from the municipal galleries in York, Harrogate and Scarborough together with 483 paintings from the National Railway Museum, almost all of which are in store. The catalogue also reveals for the first time the paintings from the Roebuck Collection that was left to Skipton almost 20 years ago and has been hidden ever since.
The Public Catalogue Foundation is a charity passionate about making art accessible to the public and educational research. Between 2003 and 2012, they digitised all 210,000 oil paintings in public ownership around the United Kingdom (80% of which are not on view), resulting in this series of affordable catalogues and an online database. They are currently working to digitise the nation’s public sculpture collection.
