Oil Paintings in National Museums of Liverpool
(Approx $44.80 or €33.60)
This volume contains over 3,000 oil paintings from National Museums Liverpool, drawn from seven museum sites in Liverpool. These include the Lady Lever Art Gallery and the Walker Art Gallery which both boast outstanding collections of paintings including Old Masters, Victorian art, notably Pre-Raphaelite works, and post-war British painting. Important holdings of paintings can also be found at Sudley House and The Museum of Liverpool. Merseyside Maritime Museum’s collection of marine artworks serves to remind us that the sea and shipping are key to Liverpool’s identity, whilst the smaller collection at the UK Border Force National Museum gives a fascinating glimpse of British social and political history.
The Public Catalogue Foundation is a charity passionate about making art accessible to the public and educational research. Between 2003 and 2012, they digitised all 210,000 oil paintings in public ownership around the United Kingdom (80% of which are not on view), resulting in this series of affordable catalogues and an online database. They are currently working to digitise the nation’s public sculpture collection.
