Oil Paintings in Edinburgh vol.I
(Approx $44.80 or €33.60)
This volume addresses three significant collections, each with diverse holdings. From Dutch landscape masters to Scottish colourists; from Domenichino and della Vecchia to Bellany and Howson. Covered in this first volume are the City of Edinburgh Council, the University of Edinburgh and Historic Scotland’s Edinburgh pictures. Each collection is diverse, and each collection is both historically significant and contemporarily relevant, adding to the rich tapestry of culture in venues throughout Edinburgh, from the Castle to the Zoo, from Trinity House to the King’s Buildings. In total, over 1500 paintings are reproduced in this volume.
The Public Catalogue Foundation is a charity passionate about making art accessible to the public and educational research. Between 2003 and 2012, they digitised all 210,000 oil paintings in public ownership around the United Kingdom (80% of which are not on view), resulting in this series of affordable catalogues and an online database. They are currently working to digitise the nation’s public sculpture collection.
