Oil Paintings in Greater Manchester vol.II
(Approx $44.80 or €33.60)
Greater Manchester Volume II contains some 2,500 oil paintings from nine public collections in Bolton, Bury, Salford, Sale and Wigan. Salford Museum & Art Gallery holds one of the largest collections of art work in the Manchester area. The collection is dominated by British Victorian paintings, many of which have been donated to the gallery by local philanthropists such as Oliver Heywood and Edward Langworthy. The volume also contains the The L. S. Lowry Collection dedicated solely to the artist.
The Public Catalogue Foundation is a charity passionate about making art accessible to the public and educational research. Between 2003 and 2012, they digitised all 210,000 oil paintings in public ownership around the United Kingdom (80% of which are not on view), resulting in this series of affordable catalogues and an online database. They are currently working to digitise the nation’s public sculpture collection.
