(Approx $44.80 or €33.60)
This catalogue brings together over 2,300 oil paintings from 10 publicly-owned collections across Bristol. The largest collection reproduced is Bristol Museum and Art Gallery with over 1,200 paintings spanning Northern and Italian Renaissance painting, Baroque to modern French art, and British painting from the seventeenth century to the twenty-first. The collection tells the story of art in Bristol and internationally. Also catalogued are the holdings of the Royal West of England Academy, the Society of Merchant Venturers and the University of Bristol.
The Public Catalogue Foundation is a charity passionate about making art accessible to the public and educational research. Between 2003 and 2012, they digitised all 210,000 oil paintings in public ownership around the United Kingdom (80% of which are not on view), resulting in this series of affordable catalogues and an online database. They are currently working to digitise the nation’s public sculpture collection.
